In Newark, New Jersey, as in any city, young people want, and certainly need, to have opportunities to interact with people who model an authentic and honest life. When the family does not, or cannot, provide this, gangs start to look pretty good to kids desperate for this contact. In what ways is the faith-community ready to be real for them? There are congregations in our presbytery who are doing this very thing every day! Where can the church provide more safe places for kids to meet caring, authentic adults who love them?
