Newark Presbytery is saddened to learn of the devastation and loss of life caused by the earthquake and resulting tsunami that hit Japan yesterday. Presbyterian Disaster Assistance , the Red Cross, and other agencies will be assessing the tragedy and directing resources to respond to victims affected. The 8.9-magnitude quake prompted the U.S. National Weather Service to issue tsunami warnings for at least 50 countries and territories, including Hawaii, though it looks as though Hawaii has been spared the most serious effects.
We offer our condolences to the Japanese people, especially to the families and loved ones of those who have died, as they cope with the aftermath of these events. Please join with me in prayer for the safety of of our global neighbors throughout the Pacific as the tsunami watch continues.
God is our ever present help. May all those affected find comfort, peace, and safety in the One who loves them in the darkest days which lead to the day of hope and resurrection that emerges just ahead.
In hope,
Kevin
