Hello Friends, we are all relieved and grateful that the severity of Irene was a bit less then we had prepared for. I have not recieved any reports of serious injury or serious property damage. If your congregation or neighborhood was hard hit, or if you have suffered structural or property damage, or need help in property assessment. please contact me as soon as you can.

I was appraised of water flooding in church basements and power outages at several churches. Many of us are in an assessment mode. Presbytery Center did not experience any severe problems.

Thank you for the concerns expressed for me and the staff. It means so much to us. We are all good but unable to open Presbytery Center as norma todayl. We expect to be open tomorrow, Tuesday. Remember even when the Center is closed, staff can be reached by leaving voicemail messages at their phone extension which is emailed, or called directed on their mobile phone. Email is also an effective way to communicate your concerns or requests for assistance. Presbyterian Disaster Assistance is available. Please see previous blog posts for more details about PDA, property assessment, and contact information.

Thank you for taking the warnings from government officials and weather services seriously, and preparing for the worse. Your wisdom and commitment to keep your family, neighbors, and property safe was responsible and prudent.

I appreciate your letting me know if you hear of any minister or congregation that is experiencing stressors or needs resources. I am available and eager to serve in every way I can. Together, we are the body of Christ and the presence of Jesus for our neighbors and communities. Thank you for your gifts of love and presence.

Sincerely,
Kevin

UPDATE: Wednesday, August 30, 2011
Assessing damage to our properties is not a one-time effort. As the incremental and continuing flood waters rise, so too does the cascading stressors to property. At Presbytery Center, for example, water collected under the roof, above the ceilings of several of our rooms, and yesterday crashed through flooding furniture, rugs, and desks full of papers and belongs. Remediation and adjusters will be on site today. Please be sure to check, and re-check, your buildings over the next few days. Report damage immediately to your insurance carrier, and please let us know so that we can support your efforts.
Our prayers remain for neighbors across town and in the northeast who are restoring what Irene took away. Thank you or your good stewardship.
Sincerely,
Kevin
